Presidents matter — choose carefully!
We celebrate Presidents’ Day at the start of the week. Like our other national holidays, it’s a day to reflect on our high aspirations as Americans. Men like Washington and Lincoln, whose birthdays fell in this month, were chosen for their prestige – because the people of this nation admired their skills, their wisdom and their ideals and wanted them to lead our country.
But there’s a darker shade of leadership in the world, one that achieves its status by violence, intimidation and control. Even young children instinctively know the difference between a leader and a bully. Leaders care about people; bullies lack empathy or remorse. Leaders can by humbled by acclaim; bullies have an inflated sense of their importance. Leaders bring out the best in others; bullies manipulate others for their own gain.
On Saturday, February 21, we will celebrate the end of Presidents’ Week by coming together to declare that Americans want and deserve leaders of character. We want leaders worthy of respect and honor. Ultimately, we want leaders who are worthy of us.
Join your fellow Littleton activists and patriots for a spirited public rally at the corners of Santa Fe & Bowles from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring your signs. Bring your flags. Bring your friends and family.
